Welcome to the first part of our Masterclass, “Overcoming barriers” which is designed to support Assistants and Administrative Professionals to hit the ground running when they organise a sustainable events.
We’ll start with an informal group discussion, setting the stage for what you hope to gain from this session. Share your views on sustainability, reflecting on what sustainable ideas went well and what could have been better in a relaxed and insightful setting.
Next you will gain a detailed awareness of what sustainability means in a competitive event setting. We will go beyond “net zero” to understand key terms like material footprint, internal costs of carbon, overtourism, the ‘four Rs’—reduce, reuse, recycle, and recover—to ensure you can answer any questions on sustainability from stakeholders or clients.
The core of the masterclass is to help you become as practical as possible. We will examine event examples to see how various events have become more sustainable by tackling food, energy, and material waste. We will explain how many organizations have shifted their approach to attending and running events to ensure they are as sustainable as possible. Examples include the biggest trade shows, festivals, and small private meetings.
We will also include tips on how to make the most of the events you run and attend – a key sustainability principle.
In the final part of this section, we will introduce sustainable event pledges and plans to ensure your ideas lead to concrete action.
